Langerhans Granules in Fetal Keratinocytes
نویسنده
چکیده
Langerhans granules, as reconstructed in three dimensions and interpreted by Sagebiel and Reed (13) and Wolff (17), are discs that in profile look like rods bounded by limiting membranes 50-60 A wide and terminated in vesicular formations. Internally, the rod-shaped portions of the disc demonstrate paracrystalline nets or lattices with a periodicity of 90 A . The presence of these granules has been considered the primary criterion by which dendritic cells have been identified as Langerhans cells . Although Langerhans granules are most commonly seen in dendritic cells in the epidermis (3-5), they have been found in cells in the dermis (18), in the epithelia of the uterine cervix (7) and of the gingiva (14), and in three forms of histiocytosis X granulomata (1, 8, 15) . Langerhans granules have now been found inside the keratinocytes of fetal epidermis .

Skin morphology of the Clawn miniature pig.
Skin morphology of the Clawn miniature pig (CMP) was investigated at the axilla, medial thigh, back and loin. The mean thickness of the epidermis (excluding the corneal layer), the mean number of layers of keratinocytes comprising the epidermis and the mean height of keratinocytes were assessed morphometrically. When observed under a light microscope, the skin of the CMP resembled human skin. M...
متن کاملLangerhans cells in the developing mucosal epithelium of mice.
The presence of Langerhans cells in the developing mucosal epithelium of mice was investigated by ATPase histochemistry and by electron microscopy. In the stratified squamous epithelium of the tongue and forestomach, a few ATPase-positive Langerhans cells could be recognized at 1 or 2 weeks after birth. They increased in number by 3 weeks of age, but the density was lower than that in the epide...
متن کاملMelanosomes in Phagocytic Vacuoles in Langerhans Cells
~Ihe nature of Langerhans cells is disputed. ~fhey have been considered effete melanocytes (1, 2), postmelanin-synthetic cells (3), melanocyte precursors (4), intraepidermal nerve endings (5, 6), or postdivisional stages of previously melanogenic melanocytes (7). Under the electron microscope, melanocytes and Langerhans cells are distinguished by highly characteristic cytoplasmic or-ganelles: m...
متن کاملFetal Fibroblasts and Keratinocytes with Immunosuppressive Properties for Allogeneic Cell-Based Wound Therapy
Fetal skin heals rapidly without scar formation early in gestation, conferring to fetal skin cells a high and unique potential for tissue regeneration and scar management. In this study, we investigated the possibility of using fetal fibroblasts and keratinocytes to stimulate wound repair and regeneration for further allogeneic cell-based therapy development. From a single fetal skin sample, tw...
متن کاملLangerhans cell Histiocytosis: Report of a case with cutaneous lesions with favorable response to oral Thalidomide
We report of a 29-year-old man presented with yellow-red, scaling papules on the skin of scalp, retro-auricular folds, inguinal, axillary, chest and abdomen. The lesions had a poikilodermatious appearance in some areas, such as trunk. The patient also had diabetes insipidus and skull osteolytic lesions. The diagnosis of langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) was suggested based on H and E staining...
